Winter months see the storms hit hard. Claims running into thousands of pounds for instances such as falling tree branches damaging the aluminium roof plus walls of a caravan are not uncommon.
This is without even mentioning potential floods. The floods in July and August 2007 caused millions of pounds of damage to caravans nationwide. The floods were certainly our biggest source of claims in 2007. We saw entire storage compounds of touring caravans three feet deep in water. Once water enters a caravan in this way, there is often irreparable damage. Static caravans were affected to an even more serious degree.
Even the British Summer can always be counted on for a number of storms, and these understandably catch caravanners enjoying their holidays off guard. Canvas awnings, used as an extension to a caravan are often damaged or destroyed. Although Caravan Guard does cover storm damage to awnings, some insurers exclude it. With our average awning claim totalling over £800, it’s wise for caravanners who own an awning to make sure they choose a policy which will cover storm damage to it.
What is apparent is that these insurance claims are hard to avoid, so choosing the right policy to make sure that you can continue your holidays even if the worst does happen to your caravan is massively important.
