Showtime at the NEC!

National Boat, Caravan & Outdoor Show

Many of you will be planning a trip to the NEC near Birmingham over the coming days for the National Boat Caravan and Outdoor Show, which is on now and runs until Sunday 22 February.

The new Rapido 776F
The new Rapido 776F

The show boasts the world debut of the new Rapido 776F, the company’s first low-profile motorhome with a transverse drop-down bed over the lounge. There’s just one layout on offer, which comprises a large front lounge with long side-facing settees that convert to forward-facing seats.

And while the drop-down bed over the lounge precludes the use of a sunroof here, the 776F has a Skyview sunroof over the cab.

Headroom should be generous, too, as the new model uses the same chassis configuration as the double floor models, but without the double floor.

Auto-Trail Excel

Marquis will unveil the Low-Line versions of the Auto-Sleeper Mercedes County range, while Auto-Trail’s low-cost, low-profile Excel range, will be joined by a new 590EK model.

It’s the shortest in the Excel range, and has twin side-facing sofas in its forward lounge, an end kitchen and corner rear washroom. Expect to pay just over £32k.

Look out, too, for the new Conquest range, which is closely related to Excel, uses different fabrics and exterior graphics and will be marketed through a new dealer network.

Escape from the Swift Group

Escape is another affordable new brand, this time from Swift Group. The Swift group are showing the full range of four models, including rear lounge and fixed bed layouts, all based on 2.2-litre Fiat Ducatos. Features include a blue cab, combined oven and grill, three-burner hob, 80-litre fridge, radio/CD/MP3-player and prices start from £30,000.

Also entry-level, Explorer Group will be showing a new model in both the Elddis Autoquest and Compass Avantgarde ranges. The low-profile 155 offers a rear fixed double bed and front lounge.

Auto-Sleepers are aiming at a rather different buyer
with their new van conversion, called Freedom. This long-wheelbase Peugeot Boxer high-top is designed to give you the freedom to use aires, CLs and go wild-camping with its emphasis on battery power and large tanks. It features a side settee (which converts into a double bed) opposite the sliding door.

Auto-Sleepers also plan to launch a revised version of the long-lived Ford Duetto high-top, plus two new coachbuilts. The latter are additions to the low-line Nuevo range: one will use the existing front lounge layout; the other a rear lounge.

IH Camper

IH Campers will show a new stretched version of its front lounge Oregon, based on the extra-long Fiat Ducato. Using the bigger van as its base has allowed IH to incorporate their trademark boot storage area, as well as a much-improved washroom and more kitchen worktop.

Chausson will be displaying their new Twist 02 fixed bed van and the Welcome 72 low-profile. Unusually compact for an island bed ‘van, the Fiat-based 72 is less than seven metres long.

If you are popping along to the show, come and see us on stand 3070B. Everyone’s a winner in our show competition.
