I’m thinking of applying for a SORN (statutory off-road notification) for my motorhome, as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak means I can’t use it. Will this affect my policy?
If you choose to SORN your motorhome (statutory off-road notification) it’s still important to remain insured, even though your vehicle is laid up. Storage sites might insist on you having insurance cover from a liability viewpoint and your motorhome still needs to be legally insured if it’s kept on the road or in a residential car park.
Your motorhome insurance policy protects you against common risks, such as theft, fire, storm, flood, vandalism, and accidental damage, even when it’s not in use. In fact, our claims stats show that a massive 43 per cent of claim payouts were for when leisure vehicles were not in use.
Your motorhome insurance policy will not be affected if you have a SORN and you don’t need to let us know.
Please make sure you continue to use any security devices whilst your motorhome is off the road, keeping the battery charged so that any alarm or tracking device are fully working.
