The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak means I can’t travel and use my motorhome. Should I cancel my policy?
We wouldn’t recommend you cancel your motorhome insurance policy, as it still protects you against risks, such as theft, fire, storm and flood, when your motorhome is laid up. Our claims stats show that a massive 43 per cent of claim payouts were for when leisure vehicles were not in use.
Legally your motorhome must be insured, even when its laid up, unless it’s declared as SORN (statutory off-road notification). However, if you choose to SORN your motorhome (statutory off-road notification) it’s still important to remain insured so your pride and joy continues to be protected.
Also make sure you fully drain down your motorhome’s water and sanitary systems if your motorhome is not in use from November 1st to March 15th. Our handy video explains the importance of draining down in winter and goes through the steps to take: https://www.caravanguard.co.uk/news/video-how-to-drain-down-your-caravan-14558/
