2022 Adria Matrix Axess 600 SL motorhome

Refreshed for 2022, Adria’s Matrix Axess sub-motorhome range comprises three models all using the same coachbuilt body, with Fiat’s Ducato and Camping-Car chassis providing the running gear.

Axess actually signifies the lowest of three trim levels offered by Adria (there are also Plus and Supreme, but with subtle differences to the floorplans), while the Matrix moniker denotes the presence of a drop-down double bed.

The Adria Matrix Axess 600 SL motorhome here takes things a step further with two permanent single beds (that can also make a double) set high enough to also provide a generous garage area below.

Full credit to Adria for offering the Axess 600 SL on a driving licence friendly 3,500kg chassis as well as having a pretty good payload. The 140bhp engine as standard should provide sufficient oomph and economy, but power and automatic transmission upgrades are available. Fiat’s latest Ducato cab is just that bit more car-like, with its three-spoke padded steering wheels incorporating controls for your phone, cruise control and the “infotainment” system (note also the new monitor).

Before you get too carried away with the initial price, however, there are two key Packs to consider (that will also eat into that load margin, of course) – Lux and Fiat Safety. You can do the research for yourselves, but the addition of these two could up the price ante to some £73,730.

The All-inclusive Pack comes as standard, and it’s this that gives you a 100Ah leisure battery, heated waste water tank, gas and mains electric operation for the Truma system, flatscreen TV holder, cab carpets, Thetford Duplex oven/grill (not shown in our pictures), kitchen sink cover/chopping board, fixing points for a bike rack, Isofix rear seat, awning, rear-view camera (for a small motorhome insurance discount) and more.

The Adria Matrix Axess 600 SL offers sleek looks with a perfect colour match between cab and coachbuilt bodywork (something that not all converters achieve). You’ll note the habitation door is UK offside. It’s a one-piece unit with flush-fitting window (as indeed are all the others), which also boasts a nifty waste bin arrangement.

The main bodywork is in GRP (glass-fibre) with internal polyurethane framework and Styrofoam insulation, all backed by a 10-year water ingress warranty.

Inside, it’s a familiar enough floorplan. The lounge is upfront, comprising an L-shaped settee and a single inward-facing seat. Swivelling the cab seats for a decent lounge area capable of accommodating at least four folk is simple enough around a good-sized tabletop on a fixed pedestal leg, with a full range of height as well as fore, aft and swivel adjustment.

Shown here is the standard Mabel soft furnishing finish, which is offered with a choice of six scatter cushion colours. There are also two leather upholstery options.

Behind the lounge, the kitchen is along the offside, just inside that habitation door. There’s a two-burner hob, plus a separate sink in matching stainless steel, while key details include a flip-up worktop extension, integrated splash panel, a handy shelf and good high- and low-level locker storage. There’s plenty of chilled food and drink capacity, too, thanks to the 142-litre fridge.

Opposite the kitchen is Adria’s Duplex washroom, accessed via a tambour door. Duplex is the design with the washbasin on a swinging wall that allows you to devote a large area to showering when needed. Also here is a swivel-bowl toilet. A drop-down hanging rail for wet clothing, window for ventilation and overhead locker are among the welcome features here too.

At the back of the Adria Matrix Axess 600 SL motorhome, there are permanent steps up to the two permanent single beds.

These can also be made into a lengthways double, if needed.

High-level lockers on the back wall mean it’s a bit tricky to contemplate sitting up in bed, but there are opening windows either side and a standard rooflight above.

Verdict: Axess for all in this smart-looking four-berth motorhome

Plus: General build quality, excellent beds, clever washroom

Minus: Options cost, no sitting up in the rear beds
