Such has been the speed of development at Adria, its Sports have evolved into a range in their own right – essentially, they’re Twin campervans, with elevating roofs and this, the 640 SG, represents a further attempt to push the boundaries.
The full package?
There’s a quartet of Twin Sports on the table for 2022 with the 640 SG campervan the latest debutant. Based on Fiat’s 6.36m Ducato, it comes with Fiat’s latest 2.2-litre, 140bhp engine as standard, with options for more power. Automatic transmission starts from £3,050.
But it’s the weight that’s interesting here. UK-bound models will have a maximum gross vehicle weight of 4,300kg as standard, which in turn means a payload of over one tonne.
That’s deliberate, because this is designed to appeal to more active users of the outdoors, who might want to transport anything from bikes to boating gear – and there’s certainly plenty of space for items of that ilk in the extensive garage area inside the rear doors of the Adria Twin Sports 640 SG campervan. The checker plate flooring, lashing points and fold-away facility for the beds all point towards other uses for this vehicle.
You won’t have failed to notice the storage bags in lieu of lockers here, either. Three to each side, these zipped holdalls can be moved from home to ‘van to make your packing all the easier.
The beds are that bit more unique, too, thanks to a system that allows you to raise or lower them – again, just to make your luggage packing all the easier. There’s even a ladder for accessing the beds when they’re at their highest setting.
The sliding side door of the Adria Twin Sports 640 SG campervan is on the UK offside (driver’s side) and, of course dictates the floorplan, which is actually a standard enough offering of front lounge, kitchen partway across the sliding door entrance, mid-’van washroom and that bed/storage area at the back.
In fact, it’s all been squeezed somewhat by making the rear area the priority. It’s an otherwise typical lounge for a van conversion, where both cab seats can be swivelled and there’s a forward-facing rear bench seat with three-point belts
The side-fixing table is on a rail for some adjustability and it has a swing-out extension section.
Kitchen facilities are at campervan level, with a combined two-ring gas hob and sink in stainless steel. The brushed metal storage pod to its right is bound to be useful for small items you want to keep handy.
The drawers under the sink are particularly easy to open. At the leading edge of the kitchen you’ll find the fridge, a location that means it’s easy to get at whether you’re inside the Twin Sports 640 SG campervan or out. The 84-litre capacity is impressive for a vehicle of this type.
Across from the kitchen, there’s full-height tambour door access to a compact washroom (Adria calls it its Ergo design), with a countertop basin and a swivel-bowl toilet. You use the whole room for showering, and it’s good to see there are two plug holes in the shower tray – it always helps drainage when the vehicle isn’t quite parked on the level.
An overhead locker provides the main storage, while the strip of mirror is at a rather curious height for most users. The biggest downside of this washroom, however, is its lack of ventilation – no rooflight, no opening window.
It is, however, a true four-berth when it comes to sleeping. As well as those two single beds, push up the elevating roof, add the folding ladder and you’ve got access to a double bed on a one-piece mattress with plastic springs. There’s zip-open ventilation to the canvas roof section, which can also be removed altogether if temperatures get really hot.
There’s plenty of standard spec’ on the Adria Twin Sports 640 SG campervan. Webasto heating, external shower point, even the choice of scatter cushion colours at no extra cost. Adria’s All Inclusive Pack is standard on the 640 SG, too. It includes an awning, carpet, Isofix fittings in the rear seat, heated waste water tank, 100Ah leisure battery, TV holder and more.
In this video we take a look inside the Adria Twin Sports 640 SG campervan:
If your spending allows and you really want to top it all off, the Fiat Luxury Pack is worth investigating. That’s what has the upgraded alloy wheels, black front grille and headlights, reversing camera, Traction+ system with hill descent control, enhanced infotainment system (including 7in screen), wireless device charger, electric parking brake and a whole lot more.
There’s a choice of metallic paint finishes, too, although do check with your Adria dealer for the latest news here.
Just note the unladen weight (aka kerbweight), though. It’s a pretty hefty 3,180kg, which has consequences for maximum speeds. As it currently stands, although motorhomes with an unladen weight of over 3,050kg can still do 70mph on motorways, when it comes to single/dual carriageways you’re restricted to 50mph/60mph respectively.
Verdict: Interesting innovation with active users in mind
Plus: Huge flexible rear luggage area
Minus: Slightly compromised lounge and kitchen, price creeps up with options
In-a-nutshell: Loads better

Outstanding Van, just can’t get hold of one in UK. I can get other variants but the SG seems to be less attractive to UK dealers. I am even considering buying in Europe as LHD. Pity, amazing piece of kit.
What a truly fantastic van with new innovative storing and accessory ideas. It would be a dream to own one, and be free to travel anywhere.
