You don’t need to look too far to find a sub-7m long, low-profile coachbuilt motorhome with twin single beds over a garage… availability is another question, of course… but if you’re prepared to pay a bit more for a quality offering, here’s one for your list.
Trend might be the more budget motorhome range offering from Germany’s Dethleffs, but it still comes across as a premium offering. The Dethleffs Trend T6716 EB kicks off a range of six models (all also available as A-class’s).
Take the £74,490 price with a pinch of the proverbial, though, because – as is the way with imported premium motorhomes, especially – there’s a wide choice of optional extras to consider to make it all truly yours. Everything from alloy wheels to reversing cameras (a choice of three) are on the factory-fitted options list
Go, configure
Luckily, there’s a configurator section on the Dethleffs (pronounced “dett-leffs”) website that allows you to choose away to your heart and/or wallet’s desire while it sorts the prices you pay and – just as importantly – the weights of any extras added as you make your choices.
Based on Fiat’s Ducato, it’s the 140bhp engine and manual transmission as standard for the Dethleffs Trend T6717 EB, with power and automatic transmission upgrades available.
As standard, the aforementioned single beds provide the sleeping, although a drop-down double bed over the lounge is one of the optional extras.
Those beds are on chunky mattresses, and fixed steps make access very straightforward. They can also be made into a double fairly easily thanks to an infill piece on a slide-out section.
High-level lockers across the back wall preclude full sitting up in bed. It’s also just a standard skylight above.
Open shelving to either side, though, helps to offset any feeling of being hemmed in. There’s lots of interior-access storage in the bed bases, too, including a wardrobe. There’s also a second, larger wardrobe just inside the habitation door.
The kitchen is L-shaped, along the UK nearside, with a washroom on the offside. The former includes a three-ring hob and separate sink.
Under the hob is a cutlery drawer with a full-width handle which will be useful for hanging tea towels etc. A couple of rails with hooks are also bound to come in handy, as will the extractor (although it does intrude into locker space. There’s still some high-level shelving, however.
Completing the cooking facilities in the Dethleffs Trend T6717 EB is a Thetford Duplex oven/grill, with a soft-close drawer beneath. To the left of the food preparation area is a large, slimline Thetford fridge (137-litre volume).
Adjacent, the washroom has a typical Dethleffs plastic flap on the inside of its door – it offers protection when you’re showering. A second flap opposite allows you to close off an area while – and this is the really clever bit – a hinged wall swings around so you can create a really good area for showering in. It also keeps the toilet protected.
The lounge comes with two three-point seat belts to the forward-facing settee.
Also here is a fixed pedestal leg table with plenty of fore-and-aft as well as height adjustment. It’s shaped to allow easier access around it – one of a number of details that just help to make the Dethleffs Trend T6717 EB a bit different to any rivals.
Not the cheapest, then, but if you want to make a quality start and add specification to suit your needs, here’s a motorhome you’ll be proud to own.
