What flexibility. What a price. These days (we’re talking 2023 season now), anything that hovers around a £65,000 price tag is what counts as a bargain for a brand new, mid-sized coachbuilt motorhome.
The Evo 77 Plus comes in at just under 7m in length, is based on a Ford Transit chassis-cab with a driving licence-friendly maximum weight of 3,500kg – and with a decent payload – and packs a fair old punch when it comes to standard equipment. It starts off with the 130bhp engine and six-speed manual transmission, but there are options to upgrade.
Italian manufacturer Rimor is part of the Trigano Group, sitting alongside sister brands, such as Slovenia’s Adria, Spain’s Benimar, France’s Chausson and the UK’s Auto-Sleepers and Auto-Trail, among others.
Aside from fairly minimal graphics, there’s not much stinting with the bodywork construction in this Rimor Evo 77 Plus motorhome. There’s a five-year water ingress warranty to the double-skin GRP, polystyrene insulated construction.
The floorplan really does seem to offer the best of both worlds – daytime as well as night. There are two lounges, the one at the back offering U-shaped seating around a fixed pedestal table, with opening windows to three sides.
Up front, the swivelled cab seats join an L-shaped settee and inward-facing single seat, again around a fixed pedestal leg table. Both tables have manual height plus fore and aft adjustment, as well as hinged tops that fold over when you want to move around more easily.
Giving it the full five
There are also two electrically-operated double beds inside the Rimor Evo 77 Plus – one over each lounge. Both are supplied with ladders, but UK importer MandC Ltd also says more adaptations can be made to lower the beds for easier access – although the front one does cut across the habitation doorway.
Sleeping berth number five is made from the lounge seating – it makes for a generous single, although you could easily squeeze two smaller folk in here, if needed.
For travel, there’s forward-facing spots for two rear passengers on a conventional enough bench seat with three-point belts and head restraints. A fifth berth is more occasional – it’s a rear facing single seat, with lap restraint.
The Evo’s kitchen is something of a mixed bag. It starts off with a three-burner hob and a circular sink, supplemented by a slimline fridge with automatic energy selection.
You do get a microwave and conventional oven as part of the UK specification of the Rimor Evo 77 Plus, but their locations are tricky – the former too high for most, the latter directly under the wardrobe. Storage is good, however, with a generous sized cutlery drawer and overhead lockers, plus lockable drawers. Kitchen details include a single mains socket and a rail with a couple of adjustable hooks. Just note the kitchen worktop isn’t as high as some.
The washroom fares better. There’s a roomy shower cubicle in here, which is also home to a fixed handbasin. The rain shower fitting is something you’d normally associate with very upmarket motorhomes – while the basin’s tap outlet can also be pulled out for showering. There’s also a Thetford swivel-bowl toilet, plus an opening window, two small storage pockets and an upper-level locker.
As mentioned, the standard kit in the 2023 Rimor Evo 77 Plus is pretty impressive. Reversing camera, solar panel, Cat 1 alarm, window to habitation door and fly screen, cab seat covers, plentiful LED interior lighting (some of it dimmable), and more are on the list.
The reversing camera, Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and tracker, included in our review model will also help to reduce your Caravan Guard motorhome insurance premium.
Also, individual purchasers can choose their ideal locations for three additional 230V, 12V and USB sockets.
Verdict: Great value
Plus: Flexible seating and sleeping arrangements
Minus: Unconventional locations for oven and microwave
In-a-nutshell: Functional Ford meets value-for-money, family-friendly coachbuilt
