There’s something about a motorhome with a rear lounge. That facility to just sit back, relax and look out on the views around you…whatever the weather.
In a vehicle some 7.32m long, the added bonus of another seating area at the front, that’s large enough to cope with four (at least), means pure daytime luxury.
That’s what you get with the F72, one of six low-profile coachbuilts in the F-Line motorhome range for 2025 from Auto-Trail. It goes on to offer even more.
Like all F-Lines, it’s a coachbuilt based on Ford’s Transit chassis-cab. In anticipation of you going all-out four-berth family motorhoming, the more powerful (and torquey, up to 390Nm at 1,750rpm) 165bhp engine is offered as standard. And the sub-£2,000 six-speed automatic transmission option might just prove an investment, especially in terms of better fuel economy and more relaxed driving generally.
There’s no doubt your Auto-Trail dealer will also lure you into at least one of its main optional extras packs. Arguably rightly so, as you’ll really want to be budgeting for these.
For the record, the Lux Pack includes Ford’s 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with colour reversing camera, lithium leisure battery, TV aerial and pre-wiring, solar panel, Omnivent, upgraded habitation door with flyscreen, floor carpets throughout, and external gas point.
And the Driver’s Pack covers off electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, automatic headlamps with static bending, front foglamps, heated windscreen, cab air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, collision mitigating system, lane assist, speed sign recognition, front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring and more.
The reversing camera in Lux Pack and the tyre pressure monitoring system will give you savings on your annual motorhome insurance premium with Caravan Guard!
As for the standard vehicle, there’s plenty going on between those seating areas. At 2.35m, the 2025 Auto-Trail F-Line F72, is a full-width motorhome with GRP-faced bodywork that’s tough enough to take the knocks and is also backed by five-year warranties covering the body and the living quarters.
The L-shaped kitchen is on the offside. It has a Thetford Triplex cooker featuring a three-ring hob and combined oven and grill. There’s also an inset sink with loose cover (flip it over and you have a food-quality chopping board) plus a black mixer tap.
A Russell Hobbs microwave oven (glass plate model) directly over the hob completes the cooking facilities.
Other kitchen features in the 2025 Auto-Trail F-Line F72 motorhome range from a clever cutlery drawer arrangement to a slimline fridge with freezer, total capacity 142litres. All that’s really lacking is worktop space.
Enter the washroom via its solid door and you’ll instantly spot the raised swivel-bowl toilet and part-inset hand basin.
There’s also space for a separate, plastic-lined shower cubicle with plastic folding doors, with lockers over the toilet and under the basin as well as a handy corner chrome shelving unit in the shower cubicle.
The 2025 Auto-Trail F-Line F72’s sleeping facilities kick off with an electrically operated drop-down bed over the front lounge, measuring some 1.93m x 1.23m.
That U-shaped seating area at the back also converts into a sizeable double bed (2.11m x 1.27m, according to Auto-Trail’s figures). Technically, you can also make up a 2.11m x 1.49m double from the front lounge.
However, Auto-Trail wants you to treat this as a four-berth (remember, there’s only safe travel seating for a maximum of four), with the choice of sleeping arrangements up to you.
Throughout the Auto-Trail F-Line F72 motorhome, there are plenty of details – from the opening sunroof over the cab to the free-standing table that’s of a suitable size for use in either seating area.
There’s plenty of storage, including a generous wardrobe and upper lockers plus open corner shelving around three sides of the rear lounge.
Whale’s Heat and Expanse systems supply blown air heating and hot water, respectively. Fresh and waste water tanks are 100 and 80 litres, while the gas locker will take two 6kg cylinders side-by-side.
