If you’re keen to tackle nature full-on in a folding camper, how about this? It’s one of the latest offerings from trendy trailer manufacturer Opus and it’s called the Off-Road Extreme, taking its place in a seven-model line-up for 2025.
In this video we take a look around the all-new Opus Off-Road Extreme folding camper:
As an accommodation unit, it can be towed by a huge variety of vehicles – although as ever we’d advise you keep within 85% of its starting maximum weight of 1,250kg (although this can be upgraded in stages to a maximum of 1,750kg should you desire). There’s a roof cover and the roof itself can take weights up to 75kg.
The Opus Off-Road Extreme folding camper runs on a braked chassis and there’s a choice of two body colours for the trailer itself – the Midnight Black pictured here, or Anthracite Grey.
The trailer unit comprises an aluminium structure with insulated polycarbonate panels. As well as a relatively low weight, its overall dimensions, too, means it won’t be detrimental to your tow car’s fuel efficiency.
True there are lower prices in the Opus line-up. The Off-Road Extreme starts at £30,995, but for that you do get a very comprehensive overall list of standard kit, especially by normal folding camper standards. However, as with other Opus’s, it’s very much a build-your-own policy regarding final specification.
You’ll definitely want to pick your way through the list of optional extras, just some of which are listed opposite.
However, the Extreme model descriptor does mean the likes of a fridge, microwave oven, slide-out three-burner gas hob for external/under-awning use, Air Awning and Side Skirt storage kit are standard.
Key also is the All-Road Luxe pack that includes an Air En-Suite shower tent, hot water system, Aquaclean treatment for the seating, a set of inner tent upgrades and corner steadies.
Arrive on site – or wherever you’re legally allowed to overnight if you’re determined to keep with the more adventurous theme – and there’s a bit of procedure to go through to set things up. It can certainly be manhandled easily enough before you start the unfolding process.
Inflatable technology means all the canvas goes up at the touch of a button. You certainly get plenty of living space once it’s all erected (especially if you’re comparing it to a touring caravan).
The Opus Off-Road Extreme folding camper layout starts with a main living zone within the trailer unit – and a U-shaped settee with a faux leather upholstery.
A full four-berth folding camper (although Opus says you can go on to sleep anything up to 10), there are bedroom pods at each side/end, where the beds are a good size – 1.90m x 1.40m, on one-piece mattresses.
Elsewhere, the bamboo furniture finish (including a chopping board) adds a contemporary style.
There’s a kitchen unit along the offside/back wall (when pitched), offering lots of storage opportunities as well as housing a two-burner hob and separate sink, electric heater and the aforementioned microwave.
The fridge is on the opposite side, just inside the door, where you’ll also find a waste bin.
You also get a gas locker with space for two cylinders, external gas and mains sockets, interior 12V and 230V sockets, fresh (two) and waste water containers, portable toilet etc.
And if you want more, go configure – it’s all there on the Opus website.
