But whilst your caravan is laid up at home, lockdown is an opportunity to carry out some simple checks and maintenance so you’re ready and safe for when those wheels can start rolling again.

We’ve been reviewing our back catalogue and have pulled together a caravanning maintenance playlist on You Tube of the things you need to check before you head back out on the road.
Our first video looks at cleaning the caravan. We called on some of the Caravan Guard team to go to Lowdhams Caravans to clean a very dirty Bailey caravan, which had been laid up over the winter. Using a variety of products, we shared 10 simple tips to make your tourer shine in our caravan cleaning guide.
Another area of your caravan that will need some cleaning is the water system, including the containers, pipes, taps and hot water tank. In our second video, caravanner Dan Trudgian shares a simple, yet effective method, of sterilising your caravan’s fresh water system using Puriclean.
If you do have access to your caravan, why not remove some of those annoying swirly scratches from the windows? Our third video, shows a method that can reduce these unsightly marks and completely remove smaller scratches from your caravan’s acrylic windows.
A quick check of your caravan for damp is an easy way of checking the health of your caravan shell. So, in this video, we look at how to check for damp in your caravan and what the numbers really mean.
Our final video in this caravan maintenance playlist looks at tyres. This is particularly important right now, as many caravans have been left standing for many weeks, or even months.
We highly recommend that you check the tyres on your caravan and look at four main areas as highlighted in our PACT campaign a couple of years ago. When not using your caravan for several months, if possible try each to move your caravan or jack up your caravan and rotate the wheels each month, to make sure that a different part of the tyres takes the weight of the caravan. You mustn’t forget to check your tow car tyres as well.
There’s lots to keep you busy looking after your caravan whilst you wait for UK campsites to open again and if your caravan is stored at home. And don’t forget, even though you can’t get out in your caravan right now, it’s important to maintain your caravan insurance, as theft, fire, vandalism and accidental damage is still occurring to our customers’ caravans.
