Caravanning gives you the freedom to escape whenever and wherever we want – but just how many miles do UK caravanners travel each year?
We asked caravanners in our latest poll, and hundreds of you shared your touring habits. From short UK staycations to epic European adventures, here’s how the results stacked up.
The most popular mileage bracket was 1,001–2,500 miles, with over a third of caravanners enjoying regular UK touring holidays throughout the year. A further quarter of owners said they travel 2,501–5,000 miles, proving just how many people make the most of their caravan freedom for multiple breaks or longer trips.
It was also interesting to see that 14% of caravanners who voted rack up more than 5,000 miles, often heading into Europe for extended tours.
On the other end of the scale, around seven per cent of respondents said they travelled fewer than 500 miles a year – perhaps preferring one or two longer stays on their favourite site closer to home.
Your caravanning stories
Thanks to those caravanners who shared their touring experiences.
Sean Bell told us: “We are caravanners, travel to southern Spain in the winter after Christmas to get several weeks of winter sunshine. We may also tour in the summer months to Europe or UK, in addition we take touring breaks for as little as three days to a couple of weeks as the fancy takes us at other times of the year.”
Timothy Carpenter added: “I tow a USA 5th wheel with integral black and grey dump tanks. UK campsite motorhome service points universally seem to offer grey tank discharging, but never the black. Also toured round Southern Ireland. The roads there are fantastic!”
These stories highlight the huge variety of touring styles in our community – from chasing winter sun in Spain to exploring Ireland’s scenic roads or tackling practicalities with larger outfits.
