A huge 78 per cent of voters in our latest community poll said they wouldn’t want to let anyone else use their caravan – not surprising if you’ve saved up your hard earned cash for your tourer and want to get away in it as often as you can. Plus, many caravanners said their ‘van was very personal to them and considered their tourer as their second home. We already know many of you even have a name for your caravan and might not be able to relax if a stranger was staying in it.
Here’s the results…
Only one per cent of voters said they would like to hire out their caravan for financial reward – many didn’t for fear of someone else causing damage to their prized leisure vehicle.
Twelve per cent of owners said they would be happy to lend out their caravan to family and friends – although only seven per cent already do.

“No way” was a common response to our poll question.
“Absolutely no way would I loan my pride and joy out, it cost me too much money and if it’s going to get damaged then I or my good lady will be the one to do that – no one else,” said Norman. “Some people nowadays have no respect for other people’s property especially when they haven’t paid for it.”
David R was in agreement: “No way would I let anyone have my pride and joy,” he said. “Only I look after it as it deserves and no one else can use it.”
Bazzer’s caravan is personal to him: “We spend a lot of time money and effort to look after it so I would not lend or hire it to any one else,” he added.
Jean Dearing said she was happy to let her daughter use her caravan: “Her and her husband don’t smoke and the grandchildren are well behaved,” she added. “I wouldn’t let strangers use it at all.”
Some owners have learnt the hard way and have not had a good experience of lending their caravan. Slogger shares his story: “Once lent my caravan to a friend as he could not afford a holiday for his family. Never again. He returned the keys saying a good time was had with no problems. When I checked the van later I found there had been a chip pan fire causing damage and a few items for outside use were missing. Needless to say we are no longer friends!”

I was one that said “No Way” due to previous bad experience. I’m not surprised by the results.
I don’t lend mine to anyone. Although I’m more than happy for friends and family to join us on our adventures. Have beer, Have cheer
