And after almost 500 votes, a massive 80 percent of our readers told us they take a barbecue on their motorhome or campervan holidays.
And topping the charts with a 53 percent share of the votes was a gas barbecue – not surprising when so many modern motorhomes and campervans have an external gas point – or possibly because they’re quick and easy to cook on.
A further 27 percent of voters in our barbecue poll said they took a charcoal barbecue on their motorhome holidays.
Just six percent said they didn’t like cooking outdoors and eight percent said they took a different type of outdoor cooker.

Brian Reed said he cooks on gas outdoors with a Ghillie kettle and Rob told us he uses a charcoal barbecue or an electric one where charcoal is not allowed.
But John Walker wasn’t a fan of barbecues and said they should be banned from campsites, saying: “Barbecues stink out a campsite and offend the people around the users.”

I completely disagree with John when he says bbq’s should be banned from sites, what I would say is that people who use charcoal bbq’s should learn how to use them properly.
There’s nothing worse than being in close proximity to a bbq that isn’t beieng used properly, if there is excess smoke either the coals aren’t hot enough or the charcoal is damp and why people want to use liquid bbq lighting fuel I’ll never know, it smells like Heathrow airport when that stuff is used.
I cook on a gas Cadac which isn’t a bbq but a really good grill, it is so flexible using either the grill plate or the pot stand as there is no end to the dishes that can be cooked on it.
This last weekend I was at a music festival and on the last morning one of my gas bottles in the van ran out so rather than fiddle about changing gas bottles I did tea and toast on the Cadac.
Final note anyone wishing to learn how to use a charcoal bbq properly should seek out one of the many video’s on YouTube, we all think we are experts until we see it done properly, and don’t forget to have a fire bucket or extinguisher at hand.
