Our latest poll results revealed that a massive 91 per cent of voters have checked on their caravan or motorhome so far this winter!
Here’s the results…
In January, we asked if you’d carried out any winter checks on your leisure vehicles. Lots of people voted with 636 responses received. And the results show that most people don’t lay up their ‘vans for the winter and then forget about them.
Many checked on their pride and joy, with 55 per cent of caravanners saying they’d checked their caravan and 38 per cent of motorhomers checking their motorhome.
Only three per cent of people who voted said they hadn’t checked on their ‘van at all and four per cent said they planned to soon.
It just goes to show how important it is to check everything’s okay in the winter months and to give your caravan or motorhome an airing to prevent damp, as well as making sure there’s been no other damage from the weather or may be vermin.
Here’s what some of you had to say…
Richard Kilbride said it’s good to blast the heating on now and again, run the engine, open all lockers and cupboards and to get the warm air circulating.
“Unless you’re like me and use your motorhome all through the off season, then a 20 mile run once a month will keep the engine healthy too,” he added.
Mick Hibberd’s advice is to put an oil filled electric radiator on inside motorhome with a cable fed through a window so it doesn’t put a strain on the motorhome’s electrical supply. Only really possible if you keep your motorhome or caravan at home.
He also covers all the windows and sunroof with radiator foil to keep out sunlight, to stop the internal fabrics from fading.

Yes good, and don’t forget to get the yearly service done,especially if you are still under manufacturers warranty that will give you good peace of mind to know your pride and Joy is fit for the season and free of damp (HOPEFULLY)I know mine is
We are fortunate to able to park our caravan in our drive so checking on it is easy. We leave the Alde heating on at a low level throughout the winter (‘van connected to household power) and regularly check the ‘van. It is very easy for us for which we are grateful. It is also very nice to be able to have a glass of wine in the ‘van when we feel like escaping from the world – so relaxing!
