Most motorhomes are well-equipped with a washroom to satisfy all your cleaning, pruning and ablution needs! But how much use does your motorhome washroom actually get? You’ve paid for it so why not use it right?
In this month’s poll we’d like to know how much you use your motorhome washroom. If you regularly motorhome off-grid then your washroom will probably be a godsend, but then when camping on site you might prefer to use the onsite facilities, so you don’t have to wipe down the shower and can save the hot water for doing the dishes!
Then there’s the “no solids” rule for the toilet that some families or couples have!

My usage varies. I use a sites facilities when they’re available, just using my own loo at night. However I use my own facilities when there are none available on site such as Glastonbury and other music festivals.
why spend a considerable amount on a motorhome,
then only use part of the facilities you got with your purchase
surely the intention of the motorhome is the freedom it provides along with the ability to be self containes,

I always shower in the motorhome, my husband usually showers at the site facilities. We only use the toilet for liquids except in emergencies!
We have a Majestic 175 with full bathroom ,we do not use the facilities of the site for we use our own bathroom always.
Like many others I have voted toilet & handbasin (liquids only) as the majority of times we stay on sites with good or great facilities and also like others, think as we have paid for these we might as well use them. I do use the handbasin if only having a wash as I don’t like the privacy cubicles. We do use the shower if there are no facilities or they leave “a bit to be desired”. However we always worry about how much water we have used (as our water gauge is in no way accurate) and top up the tank from a large container using a 12v pump. We don’t move our motorhome once pitched and also have a grey waste container that we empty when required.
My Roller Team T-Line 590 has all the modern bathroom and toilet facilities however to date only had this motorhome for one year we have not used the shower unit as most of the time we use the site showers which are normally excellent . Use the motorhome toilet mainly liquid only as this is our preferred choice. Again most sites have excellent toilet faciilities and as I have paid for these then why not use them and save water . Use wash hand basin all the time in motorhome.
To date have not used this motorhome for wild camping but when I do I will use all the toilet facilities in the motorhome.
Although I have said we use only the toilet and basin, this is the majority of the time. We do use the shower off Grid!
We have an Autotrail Apache 700 it’s our third Motorhome of this type with separate washroom and shower areas. We don’t use the shower or toilet for solids except for the grandchildren’s emergency’s. We do use a sites facilities extensively, in fact for my wife after the sites location the quality of the toilet facilities is top of her list so much so that she reads all the social media trip star rating for them and if it’s less than three we don’t go their, five being the top. We have also found talking to Motorhome and Caravan users over fifteen years of touring that most of their damp problems emanated from the use of the shower especially in the spring, autumn and winter periods. And can I say the least number of visits I have to make filling and emptying the water tanks the better as I do like my leisure time camping and touring.
I have been motorhoming for 10 years and we both use the toilet & bathroom whilst on site and also using Aires in France & Spain. It only takes a few minutes to discharge the waste at the Aires. They also have the automatic ‘self cleaning’ cabin toilets if you don’t want to use your own. The French have the right idea.
We use our on-board facilities to the full when rallying, which we do a lot as exhibitors at steam rallies and transport shows. However, when on site and paying for every facility, we make use of the site’s facilities. So, we experience both sides of the “argument”.
Toilet used for liquids only & 99% of that at night. Shower area used for storage & hanging wet clothes. Would prefer shower space to be given over to extra storage.

My “yes” should be “shower, toilet (liquids only) and basin – if at a festival and toilet & basin only if on a site”
I agree, we’re more than happy to use our own bathroom and wouldn’t dream of using a ‘shared’ facility.
I think it very much depends on the washroom. With my current motorhome the bathroom is spacious and the shower properly separate from the rest; accordingly, I hardly ever use on site facilities. My previous motorhome the washroom was nothing like as spacious and, if you used the shower, water ended up everywhere that would not drain easily. Consequently I used it less.
Now, I would not dream of not using it to the full. Unlike David above, I do not worry about using my own water or the waste I generate; the trade off between the convenience, privacy and comfort of using my own facilities far, far outweighs any hassle of more frequent trips to get water or empty the waste. If not on a service pitch, I use an aqua roll and pump and a wastemaster – no way will I move the van to get water. It is really no great effort to do this.

I prefer to use our facilities even if on a full facility site.
We use toilet and shower only if these are not available on the site. We don’t use the washbasin – it’s too small. We use the kitchen sink instead.
In the 30 years we have owned motor homes I have only used a campsite facility a couple of times. I don’t think my wife has even ventured into a toilet block! The facilities in our Moho is superb. Good shower with proper door (no curtain) loo is good too and wash hand basin is as good as you will find in an hotel.
Why would you have your own facilities and not use them, much nicer having a shower and getting dressed in the comfort of you own motorhome.
Your options rather too black or white with only one option to tick. The one I’ve ticked is the most appropriate. However, we use our motorhomes facilities to the full when required, no problem, but on a site with suitable showers and toilets we then use them, and only use the toilet in our motorhome at night. Why waste/use water when on-site facilities are suitable and convenient?

Our Hymer Classic 644 motorhome has a shower unit, but due to the age of the van (2005) it is unusable as the base has cracked (it appears to be wafer thin in the first place!) even though the van is one owner only, and has very low mileage (25k)
I have an Autocruise accent and it’s a bit tight in the shower for a full shower but we have used it a couple of times. We tend to use the onsite showers but always use the hand basin and toilet.
Use shower area for storage for shoes dog biscuits hanging wet clothes etc.
Don’t see the point of having a toilet and not using it fully! If we had no alternatives to the shower we would use it, eg no onsite showers or more than one day off a site.
