To help you stay within the law when towing your caravan, we’ve teamed up with caravan accessory supplier, Maypole, to give away three pairs of EU-approved extension towing mirrors.
The law states that anyone towing a caravan must be able to see 20 metres behind them and four metres either side of the towed caravan as explained in our recent video on towing mirrors.
To meet this requirement, almost all vehicles will need functional towing mirrors. Two mirrors are recommended, depending on what vehicle or caravan you have, and there must be one on the offside and one internally. Drivers must make sure that the fitted extension mirror does not protrude more than 250mm beyond the widest part of the caravan. And remember to remove them when not towing your caravan or trailer.
From 26th January 2010 the law on towing mirrors changed, and now states that all new cars and motorhomes registered since this date must be fitted with towing mirrors that carry ‘e’ markings. These markings indicate that the towing mirror complies with European Directives 2003/97 or 2005/27 or ECE Regulation 46.02. The regulations signify that the glass in the towing mirror will not break into large pieces if shattered. Towing mirrors with these markings are often the best choice as the approval process will confirm the quality of their design and performance.
We’ve teamed up with caravan accessory supplier Maypole and have THREE pairs of their MP8323 extension towing mirrors to give away. These are EU-approved and have convex glass for a wider field of vision when towing your caravan.

Good informative article. I knew towing mirrors were a legal requirement but didn’t know that if your car was registered since 2010 the mirrors have to have an e mark.
