Checking your caravan’s tyres and wheels is a must before every trip to reduce the chances of a blow-out or wheel detachment.
We’ve come up with our handy PACT checklist – to help remind caravanners what they should be checking for when it comes to tyre and wheel safety: Pressure, Age, Condition and Torque.
We also recognise the importance of tyre pressure monitoring systems in helping to reduce tyre blowouts and other problems by offering a small discount on our caravan insurance premiums for those customers who fit one to their towing outfit.
To mark the launch of our caravan tyre safety PACT, we’ve teamed up with TyrePal and have one of their TC215B tyre pressure monitoring systems to give away to a lucky reader. The prize includes TyrePal monitor and up to eight sensors.
The TyrePal system is worth up to £270 and is perfect for caravanners as it continuously monitors up to eight tyres on the towing vehicle and caravan. The in-car monitor displays the pressure and temperature of each of the tyres and an alarm will sound if it detects a problem with air loss, pressure or high temperatures.
The system is easy to fit by simply screwing the sensors onto your car and caravan tyre valves. A security key locks them into place and they have a battery life of up to two years.

As well as improving safety, other benefits of correctly inflated tyres are reduced car emissions and fuel consumption.
Also, if the distance between your tow car’s dashboard and the rear axle of your caravan is more than 7.5 metres, you’ll need to buy a signal repeater to prevent signal problems.

Well written article that gives much food for thought because despite all the pre-towing checks the type of system outlined above take out the ” i hope the tyres are ok with all these little pot holes everywhere”
Nowadays they should be fitted as standard to all caravans as should the Alko trailer control
with of course the rear camera.
Since Alko brought out the system I have had it fitted to all the new Cvs I’ve had.
Would not like to tow a caravan that doe’s not have TP monitoring system
