How’s this for a lesson in caravan styling on what is arguably the most sought-after floorplan?
The 2022 season sees Adria cut loose with its flagship Alpina models, a couple of which make it to the UK – the Mississippi here and its twin axle, single-beds sister, the Colorado.
Heading up river
There’s no doubt, however, that of the two it’s the single axle Adria Alpina Mississippi that has the most popular floorplan, with its transverse island bed, full-width end washroom, U-shaped front lounge, the latter also offering large, padded head restraints, each also with height adjustment, in either front corner.
There’s no issue with lack of daylight getting in here, either, thanks to lots of tinted window space as well as a huge, opening sunroof that follows the roofline’s curve.
The night-time illumination is that bit different, too, starting with tiny-but-bright bullet lights – three in the ceiling, two along each side of the lounge. All are on rails and are movable around the caravan (or you can ask your Adria retailer about adding more).
Leather upholstery is one of just a few factory-fit options (again, consult your dealer for more info), while there’s no extra cost in specifying which of six choices of scatter cushion you want. Indeed, across Europe, it’s not altogether unusual for owners to specify more than one set of cushions so they can ring the changes depending on mood, season or whatever.
That’s just the lounge. The style theme continues with the kitchen, where you get Adria’s signature L-shaped hob and sink combination – it’s really space-efficient, contributing to a kitchen unit that offers an exemplary amount of worktop (including an extension section on the far left).
The wall rails that give you removable/adjustable racking and other storage are neat, too.
The combined oven and grill is another space-saver, allowing the huge drawers you can see as well as other lockers. And there’s a microwave oven housed in one of those upper lockers.
Across the corridor of the Adria Alpina Mississippi caravan is a Thetford fridge/freezer with a generous 140-litre capacity, while beyond the kitchen area is the bedroom, which can be separated by a felt concertina curtain on a rail.
The island double bed here is fixed, but the upper backrest sections can be angled for sitting up. The mattress sections are cold-foam, on sprung wooden slats.
Wardrobes are either side of the bed – you could say they’re his and hers (one is definitely larger than the other). Plus, as is the case throughout the rest of the interior, there are various mains and USB sockets as well as key light controls. It’s only a standard rooflight overhead, however.
A sliding door gives access to the washroom, where you’ll find a clear window beyond the toilet, an oval basin with matching shaped mirror-doored vanity unit, and a shower cubicle with bi-fold doors.
The shower tray only has the one, rather small plughole, but there’s a fixed clothes hanging rail.
There’s lots of extra storage in the washroom, too, including two high-level lockers next to the toilet and three under the counter.
Throughout the Adria Alpina Mississippi there’s also the usual list of kit you’d except to find in any upmarket tourer – everything from Alde central heating to flatscreen TV holder, Al-Ko’s ATC handling system, fresh and waste water tanks etc.
And there’s more. The Media Controller includes a Bluetooth amplifier allowing you to stream music, news etc from a range of sources. Adria’s MACH Plus is also standard – its app allows remote use/checking of the lighting, heating, hot water, monitoring of gas and battery conditions and lots more, right up to indicating when the whole caravan is level when pitching, through to its database of places to camp.
Plenty of other details set the Adria Alpina Mississippi caravan apart from more run-of-the-mill rivals.
The LED lighting strip along the length of the awning rail, electric step at the entrance door (itself that bit wider than most), the kitchen sink cover/chopping board in real wood (where rivals are happy to offer plastic), robust hinges to the interior locker doors, right through to the padded fronts on the settee bases and the go-anywhere rechargeable table lamp (you can even carry it out into the awning, for example).
True, the exterior gives more than a hint that this is no ordinary caravan. Its silver finish with flush-fitting windows, heavy-duty corner steadies, aerodynamically styled grab handles and more should prepare you for what is a very avant-garde experience.
In this video we take a look inside the 2022 Adria Alpina Mississippi caravan:
Verdict: Top-drawer technology backed by a sold build
Plus: Creatively styled, highly popular floorplan, clever use of modern materials and equipment
Minus: Single drainer in the shower, no bedside ledges
In-a-nutshell: Top-end tourer with more than a dash of style
