2022 Adria Sonic Supreme 700DC motorhome

When it comes to A-class motorhomes, Adria has plenty of form. It’s no surprise, either, to hear of some serious upgrades planned for 2022 models.

This, the Sonic Supreme 700DC is a great example, but first a bit of explaining:

• Sonic is the name Adria gives to all its A-class motorhomes (i.e. those built with a full caravan body from the chassis up)
• Supreme is the highest specification level it offers
• 700 references the overall length (i.e. over 7m, or exactly 7.5m in this instance)
• DC tells you it’s got an island bed

Arguably, the only thing Adria’s badging doesn’t tell you is it’s a four-berth, thanks to the permanent rear island double bed as well as the usual drop-down double over the cab, plus front lounge settees that can be converted to forward-facing seats for travel.

All 2022 “new generation” Sonics are based on Fiat’s latest Ducato chassis-cowl with upgraded dashboard and Euro 6e engines. As a Supreme, the 700DC comes with its GRP body in silver. Supreme trim also means black alloy wheels, flush-fitting side windows, lots of black trim work, including the finish to the full-length awning, coach-style mirrors, and new inclined rear wall with LED lights – all of which enhance the overall, fully integrated look.

Just one detail change is the fresh water tank is repositioned low between the axles. The double-floor construction allows for good protection to this, as well as providing better ground-level insulation and storage. And the lower centre of gravity bodes well for optimal handling.

The main storage area, though, is at the back, where a garage should easily take care of your heavier-duty gear.

The Adria Sonic Supreme 700DC also has a largely new interior for 2022, complete with Alde central heating. Decked out in cream-coloured leather upholstery, the lounge has the aforementioned settees-to-travel seats arrangement that’s starting to be seen as the norm in many an Adria motorhome.

Aft of the lounge, the kitchen is on the nearside. It’s not quite L-shaped, but it nevertheless offers up a bit more workspace than a flat unit, especially where drawer capacity is concerned.

Nevertheless, the Sonic Supreme 700DC does cry out for more worktop space around its three-ring gas hob and separate sink. Facilities also extend to an oven/grill combination unit and, across the corridor, a generous capacity 142-litre slimline fridge.

The bedroom’s en-suite facilities are a toilet room on the nearside and shower cubicle offside. The former comes with an oval basin to accompany the swivel-bowl toilet. The wall locker and mirror are definitely generous in their proportions, but there’s no room for a window here.

Across the corridor two folding doors open into a very modern-looking, lined shower, complete with an angled corner ledge that’s ideal for shampoos etc. As ever, beyond the looks it’s details that count – and it’s always good to see two plug holes that are diametrically opposed – the ideal arrangement for draining water away in any situation.

Walk on through the Adria Sonic Supreme 700DC – it’s a flat floor throughout – and the master bedroom at the back sees the island bed flanked by wardrobes. Actual bed height can be adjusted depending on what you want in terms of ease of access, as well as making the most of the garage storage space below.

The wardrobes are set over large ledges that are ideal bedside tabletops. The padded headboards include touch controls for the lighting and there’s also a media controller for streaming music and more from other devices here.

A large rooflight overhead provides ventilation as well as the potential for a bit of star-gazing at night.

Upfront the drop-down bed is lighter and nicely integrated into the ceiling so you can’t see the mechanism. There are also night curtain and LED light channels in the ceiling when it’s up.

There are plenty of notable details elsewhere, like the concave shape to the upper locker doors – it makes the most of the storage space inside whilst also helping the general interior feel that bit roomier.

The curved leading edges to much of the furniture help pile on the style too. As do the bullet lights on rails. Also, the extendable TV holder, part of the “media wall” arrangement just inside the habitation door – all set for easy watching from any of the lounge seats.

There’s also Adria’s MACH app that allows you to control all the other important functions remotely, e.g. heating and lighting, plus checking on the condition of your batteries, water levels and much more.

Underlying it all is a sense of a durable build quality.

There are certainly enough changes to qualify this as a new model for the season ahead. Just note, what you see here is a left-hand drive version of the Sonic Supreme 700DC, albeit the driver’s and habitation doors don’t switch even when the steering wheel does.
