Here’s a first for Bailey, as it enters the van conversion sector with not one, but two new models called Endeavour.
Cometh the van
Both are based on Ford’s Transit and this, the B62, makes no qualms about adopting what is arguably the most popular layout for a two-berth high-top campervan.
In this video, we take a look around the all-new Bailey Endeavour B62 campervan.
At 2cm under 6m in length and 2.12m wide, it has a compact enough footprint to provide daily driver credentials. It’s also a driving licence-friendly 3,500kg in terms of its maximum weight, with a generous 627kg payload.
That floorplan puts two long settees at the back, where you can open the back doors to really take advantage of the views, fresh air and more. You can also add extra cushions to make the seating U-shaped, if you wish.
Or you might prefer to face the other way and watch TV – there’s a flatscreen holder on the washroom bulkhead and sockets to the underside of the overhead locker nearby.
The double bed that can easily be made here is a large 1.90m x 1.86m or you can have 1.90m x 0.65m singles.
If you want alternative on-site seating, both cab seats swivel.
There’s also sliding door access to the Bailey Endeavour B62 campervan on the nearside.
Just inside this is the kitchen, where there’s a Thetford Triplex cooker (three-ring hob, combined grill and oven) and a circular sink.
To the left of the cooker is a worktop extension, while storage underneath the sink includes a locker with a cutlery drawer inside, and a further locker under the cooker – either or both would benefit from shelves. There are also open shelves at the end of the kitchen unit next to the sliding door, but low-level kitchen storage generally is hampered by the presence of the gas locker (it takes a single 6kg cylinder).
Opposite the kitchen, a clever tambour door arrangement for the washroom allows extra space when needed for either the washroom itself or the kitchen area. It also alleviates any claustrophobic pinch-point suffered by other conversions using this floorplan. There’s also some 1.96mm standing room throughout this Endeavour B62 campervan.
Washroom facilities include a swivel-bowl toilet and a shower extension from the tap at the handbasin, which hooks to a riser bar. Storage is good – lockers, hooks and open shelving – but a small vent provides the only ventilation.
Interior lighting and storage are also well thought-out. The high-level lockers are notably spacious and there’s room in the settee bases for bulkier objects.
Indeed, Bailey has really done its homework in terms of offering the kind of standard specification buyers want. Heating and hot water are from a Truma Combi system powered by diesel and/or mains electricity, there’s a 90-litre (including six-litre freezer) Thetford compressor fridge, Truma 100Watt solar panel, Thule wind-out awning, flush-fitting side and rear windows, Status 570 TV aerial and pre-wiring for a dealer-fit Avtex wi-fi system. One thing we’d like to see is a tracking device as standard at this value of campervan, it’d be a requirement of cover with Caravan Guard insurance (at the time of writing).
As is the Bailey way, the Ford base vehicle is a one-spec’-suits-all offering, with a generous kit count as standard – a 12in touchscreen infotainment system is the highlight, but there are all the usual steering wheel controls, air conditioning, upgraded windscreen wipers and headlights etc.
The Bailey Endeavour B62’s exterior paintwork is metallic Chrome Blue.
It has the 155bhp engine and six-speed automatic transmission, so driving performance is both strong and relaxing, whilst economy should also be good.
Extras such as more protection (underfoot, door mirrors etc) and more kitchen and bedroom fittings are via Bailey’s accessories arm, Prima Leisure.
Verdict: Two-berth campervan that ticks all the boxes
Plus: Ford base, well-equipped all-round, keen price
Minus: No flyscreen for sliding door, kitchen lockers lack shelves
In-a-nutshell: Bailey plants a formidable foot in the van conversion sector
