Funny how Bürstner is considered very much mainstream in its native Germany, whereas in the UK it’s very much seen as a premium marque. In typical German fashion, too, its full name is more than a mouthful.
Putting a premium on a drop-down bed
Bürstner’s Lyseo TD Harmony Line is a range of low-profile coachbuilt motorhomes featuring drop-down beds. The 684G here is one of two new models – making it an eight-strong line-up for the 2024 season.
In this video, we take a look inside the 2024 Bürstner Lyseo TD 684G Harmony Line motorhome:
All are based on Fiat’s Ducato chassis-cab, with 140bhp, 2.2-litre engine as standard (power and transmission upgrades are available). Note the example here is an early left-hand drive version that was imported for display purposes only. UK versions will, of course, be right-hand drive and will come with the Harmony Line and Fiat Comfort II Packages, along with Truma’s Combi 6E heating and hot water, oven, wind-out awning, 100Watt solar panel, metallic cab paintwork, removable cab and living area floor carpets, flatscreen TV holder, exterior mains socket and more.
The habitation door remains on the UK offside, however. Note it’s a wider than average opening here, with the interior of the door hosting a couple of storage pockets as well as a waste bin.
Bürstner among the early pioneers of drop-down beds in coachbuilt motorhomes and it’s fair to say it’s a design it’s enhanced over the years.
The latest Lyseo example is transverse and 2.13m tapering to 1.59m wide, with a particularly generous 2m length – dimensions that suggest for some couples, at least, sleeping longitudinally is a possibility.
Sort the settee cushions and the whole unit glides down – electrically, of course – low enough for easy access. Bürstner also provides a ladder to help if you want the bed set higher, for example if you still want to sit in the lounge, or if you’re making up the second double bed here – which comes in at an equally generous 2.06m x 1.30m.
The lounge in the Bürstner Lyseo TD 684G Harmony Line motorhome is towards the front in a floorplan that is growing in popularity – especially for couples who want the kind of full washroom facilities offered here.
Completing the daytime seating area is a height-adjustable table on two fixed legs, with a hinged top that means you can fold it over to make getting from the lounge to the rest of the living quarters as easy as possible.
Across the back, it’s a full-width washroom with the usual swivel-bowl toilet and handbasin set together on the offside, plus a shower in its own cubicle on the nearside.
There’s also plenty of space for a generous wardrobe across the back, directly over the garage, which can be accessed from inside as well as its two exterior hatches.
Forward of the washroom, the Lyseo TD 684G Harmony Line kitchen is L-shaped, a design that again optimises the room available – offering that bit more in terms of worktop and storage.
Fittings like the linear three-ring gas hob and the clever swing-out cover for the sink also help this.
Note the UK-fit combined oven and grill will affect the format of the storage offering shown here. Across the corridor is a 142-litre fridge with freezer.
Other points to note are the extra high backrests to the settees, a double-layer construction that means a flat floor throughout the interior, and details ranging from the wall storage and hooks in the kitchen through to the drop-down hanging rail, lighting and plastic pockets in the shower.
And if you opt for the Connect Package option, there’s a particularly neat storage point for the 21.5in flatscreen TV just inside the habitation door.
