Swift continues to up the ante in the van conversion sector with this – the Trekker XL, a new campervan model for the 2025 season. Like its stablemates, it’s based on Ford’s Transit, but it’s a straight two-berth with a high-top that offers lots of permanent headroom as well as a full-facilities washroom.
We walkthrough the 2025 Swift Trekker XL campervan in this video:
The Swift Trekker XL campervan comes with the most potent, 165bhp engine as standard and a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions – if you go for the latter it takes £1,895 from your pocket and lowers your payload by some 45kg.
What you also get is the most modern of base vehicles with a full complement of standard features – the latest Sync 4 infotainment system featuring DAB/FM RDS radio plus Apple Carplay/Android Auto, USB point, Bluetooth etc being the highlight here – as well as a whole host of the latest handling and safety features. There’s also the FordPass app, which allows you to keep a remote eye on your vehicle.
And, like all Swift Trekkers, the XL has been given the most adventurous of exterior looks, starting with metallic paint in a colour that Ford calls Grey Matter, along with some striking graphics.
Inside is just as contemporary in its styling – with lots of blacks and greys offset by occasional sections of woodgrain finish, as well as some neat plastic mouldings, plus that same colour yellow trim as the outside.
You’ll recognise the twin end settee floorplan as among the most popular right now. The facility to throw open both rear doors and greet your surroundings – be it beach, open countryside or indeed any other view – should not be underestimated.
Also for daytime mode, there’s a pedestal lag table for dining etc, or you may prefer to use the fold-up table on the rear offside door. There’s also a flatscreen holder if you prefer to watch TV.
At night, those settees can be adapted to form a lengthways double bed or twin singles but do note whatever format you choose they’re just 1.83m long.
For the chef, the Swift Trekker XL kitchen is directly inside the sliding door, the unit here hosting a two-burner gas hob and sink combination in stainless steel, with worktop extensions to either side.
Directly across the corridor is the fridge, a Dometic 70-litre compressor model with dual hinges for access from either side. It sits over an oven and grill combination – not the most convenient of locations but a handy feature to have, nonetheless.
Next to the fridge/oven is the washroom.
A tambour door helps with the most efficient use of space here, as does a flip-down hand basin.
There’s a Thetford swivel-bowl toilet and the shower has a water-efficient Ecocamel Jetstorm showerhead with an on/off button and wooden duckboarding underfoot. Storage includes a high-level locker with a mirrored door.
Other key fittings in the Swift Trekker XL campervan include Whale blown air heating and hot water systems, stain-resistant and easy-clean upholstery, a 110Watt solar panel, external gas and cold water shower points, concertina blinds and flyscreens to all the living quarters windows, sliding door flyscreen and plenty more.
As well as its Ford Transit base, Swift really has given the Trekker XL campervan a high overall specification – the aforementioned automatic gearbox is the only official factory-fitted option, but that shouldn’t stop you discussing potential add-ons with your chosen supplying dealer.
