October is Tyre Safety Month, making it the perfect time to shine a spotlight on one of the most important parts of your caravan or motorhome – your tyres. Well maintained tyres are essential for keeping you, your passengers, and other road users safe.
At Caravan Guard, we’re backing Tyresafe’s Tyre Safety Month with our very own PACT for tyre safety, a simple four-step check that every caravanner and motorhomer should make before hitting the road:
- P – Pressure: Check your tyre pressures regularly and adjust according to your vehicle and load
- A – Age: Tyres over five to seven years old should be replaced, regardless of how much tread is left
- C – Condition: Look for cracks, bulges, and signs of wear or damage
- T – Tread and Torque: Make sure you’ve got at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the width of your tyres and check your wheel bolts are tightened to the correct torque setting

Why motorhome and caravan tyre safety matters
Every year, tyre issues are a leading cause of breakdowns and accidents on UK roads. For caravanners and motorhomers, the risks can be even greater due to long periods of storage, heavy loads, and towing stresses. Regular checks can save you from a tyre blow out or wheel detachment – keeping your travels running smoothly.
Stuart Lovatt, Chairman of TyreSafe, explains more about the 2025 campaign called Under Pressure.
“In 2025, our theme Under Pressure responds to the growing mental and financial pressures felt across all sections of society,” he said. “We know that when life feels overwhelming, routine vehicle checks can easily be neglected – yet something as basic as ignoring underinflated tyres can lead to life-threatening consequences. Together, we can help people relieve the pressure by checking their tyres.”
Tyre safety in numbers
- Only 46% of drivers check tyre pressures at least once a month.
- 1 in 5 motorway/A-road breakdowns is tyre-related – more 51,500 in 2023 (National Highways)
- 21% of those who broke down on motorways believe it could have been avoided with proper checks
- 75% of tyre defects in fatal collisions were due to a lack of inappropriate maintenance (National Highways/TRL)
- 17% of tyres are illegal when replaced, 40% are borderline (TyreSafe/National Highways)
This Tyre Safety Month, make the Caravan Guard PACT – and you could also win the perfect tyre care kit to help you do just that.
