Tweaked for 2026, Swift’s Carrera campervan range goes into the season as a six-model range of conversions of Fiat’s omnipresent Ducato van. The 144 here offers four-person travel and sleeps three in its ever-popular front and rear lounge format.
There’s a new-look exterior thanks to Fiat’s Artense Grey paintwork complemented by Swift’s enhanced, yet subtle graphics. Swift’s conversion work also includes a full lining of 3M Thinsulate insulation.
We take a look at some of the key features of the all new Swift Carrera 144 campervan:
There’s just the one engine offering for the 2026 Swift Carrera 144 campervan – the 140bhp unit is more than capable – but you can upgrade from six-speed manual to automatic transmission, albeit at a rather hefty price.
A reversing camera is now standard, as we think it should be for any new campervan these days, and don’t forget this will attract an insurance discount with ourselves. While the cab includes an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
Swivelling the cab seats gives you a typical van conversion front lounge layout, with the overcab sunroof and Heki Midi rooflight making all the difference to letting in as much daylight and ventilation as possible.
The rear seat has a bit more shape now, too, for better support. There’s a clip-on table with a swing-out extension so four can be suitably seated at mealtimes; alternatively, you can set up a pedestal leg table at the back.
The rear lounge is where you’ll prefer to sit when you want the doors open to admire the views wherever you’re parked up.
At night, the inward-facing settees convert easily enough to a 1.86m x 1.32m transverse double bed.
There’s also a third, occasional bed to be made from the front lounge seating, including the swivelled driver’s seat – it’s 1.70m x 0.90m, dimensions probably more suited to a child.
As is usual with this kind of campervan floorplan, the Swift Carrera 144’s kitchen is just inside the sliding door.
It kicks off with a two-gas ring hob and sink combination with separate glass covers and an oven/grill, with a dual-hinged Dometic 90-litre compressor fridge set at a high level (it’s above the wardrobe) for easier access.
The worktop extension is a lift-out design, plus there’s a fold-out waste bin.
A tambour door is a space-efficient entry point for the washroom, where Swift has squeezed in a swivel-bowl cassette toilet, basin and space for showering.
The fold-away handbasin saves space, the Ecocamel showerhead saves water.
The main storage is a high-level locker next to the mirror, while a Micro-Heki rooflight takes care of the ventilation. There are some smart, practical plastic mouldings here, plus fittings in black – not just here but throughout the latest Carrera campervans – keeping up the modern appeal.
The Swift Carrera 144 uses Whale heating and hot water systems, the latter fitted underfloor to free up extra internal storage space. Also on the practicalities side are twin 80Ah leisure batteries, a 110Watt solar panel and awning light.
Fresh and waste water tanks are 93 litres and 58 litres respectively, both with heaters for winter protection, while pipework is suitably insulated. The gas locker, located in the offside settee base just inside the rear door, takes two 3.9kg cylinders.
Elsewhere, neat features include the fold-down tabletop on the back of the kitchen for outdoor use, and a similar fitting on the nearside rear door for alfresco dining or drinks.
There are also full flyscreens to the sliding and rear doors areas, an external gas socket, plenty of internal USB portals, Status TV aerial (with wiring and sockets to both the front and rear lounges), rear speakers, electric step and more.
Swift certainly gives its Carrera campervans generous starting specifications – the only factory fit option is an alloy wheels upgrade – but your supplying dealer should be able to offer a wide range of enhancements such as an awning, wi-fi, TV systems etc.
