Breaking down in a motorhome is never fun, but with Caravan Guard’s motorhome insurance you have the option to extend our UK roadside assistance to include European breakdown recovery if you’re planning on driving your motorhome in Europe.
In partnership with our motorhome breakdown provider, AXA Assistance, here are some pointers if you breakdown in Europe in your motorhome.
-
Don’t panic!
Treat the breakdown as you would in the UK
-
Pull over
Where possible pull over to a safe place away from traffic or, if you’re on a motorway, onto the hard shoulder.
-
Warn others
If it’s safe to do so, place a warning triangle behind your motorhome to warn other motorists, and then everyone should exit the motorhome and stand a safe distance away from it
-
Be seen
All passengers should wear a high vis jacket once out of the vehicle
-
Contact your breakdown provider
Always carry your motorhome insurance and breakdown documents with you. As a Caravan Guard customer take note of AXA’s Breakdown line and call them on 00 44 1737 815 123. They will arrange for breakdown help to get to you and your motorhome. Make sure you tell them the dimensions of your motorhome so an appropriate recovery vehicle is sent.
-
Carry emergency numbers
It’s also advised to take note of the emergency number for the country you’re travelling in. Typically, the emergency number throughout most of Europe is 112.
