What is a Green Card?
A Green Card is issued by your motorhome insurance company and is a standardised document recognisable at borders. It demonstrates that you have the necessary minimum motor insurance cover to drive in the EU.
Which countries need a Green Card?
Drivers will legally need to carry a physical copy when driving in any EU country, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Serbia, Andorra or Liechtenstein. This includes driving in Ireland.
Do I need a Green Card for a trailer?
Yes, if you are towing a trailer behind your motorhome you will need to request a second Green Card from your motorhome insurer.
How do I request a Green Card?
Simply complete our webform here and we will email your Green Card to print at home.
Please note: We will automatically send all Caravan Guard motorhome and campervan customers with fully comprehensive European Cover an annual Green Card if your policy extends beyond May 17 2021. All customers who have recently renewed or taken out a new policy were automatically sent an annual Green Card to print at home. Please check your renewal or new policy documents before making a Green Card request.
Do I have to pay for a Green Card?
Green Cards issued automatically are sent free of charge. If you request a duplicate copy a fee might be charged, so please keep the email with your Green Card safe.
Additional Green Cards issued for a trailer, towed by the motorhome, will be subject to an administration fee.
Can I keep a copy of a Green Card on my mobile phone or tablet?
No, you must carry a physical copy on green or white A4 paper. If you do not have a paper copy you could be refused entry into a country, receive a fine or have your vehicle seized.
Does a Green Card cover more than one trip?
Yes, it’s an annual Green Card which applies until your motorhome policy expiry date and can include all the countries you’re travelling to in more than one trip.
What if my Green Card or motorhome insurance expires when I am away?
If your trip spans two policy periods you will need two Green Cards. Once you renew your motorhome insurance you will automatically receive a new Green Card.
Also check your policy schedule for the maximum period you are covered to drive in the EU and changes to visa requirements.
