Germany’s Dethleffs has a line-up of six models in the Just Go motorhome range it announced for the 2023 season – all low-profile coachbuilts based on Ford’s Transit.
The Dethleffs Just Go T 6815 EB here is certainly a proven formula – rear single beds set high over a garage which is easily capable of taking a couple of bikes and comes with movable lashing points. But there’s more.
We take a look around the Dethleffs Just Go T 6815 EB motorhome in this walkthrough video:
Fitting up a Ford
The Ford Transit chassis-cab is the Heavy Duty version, with a wider rear track making it more suited to carrying a motorhome body. Colouring is all-white, and there’s a larger than average habitation door (it’s some 70cm wide), although it stays on the UK driver’s side.
Under the bonnet. As standard it’s the 130PS, Euro 6E engine with six-speed manual transmission – with Dethleffs offering upgrades in power as well as automatic.
As is the way with motorhome imports like this, that £66,800 opposite is just a starting price. There are plenty of options to upgrade and an extra budget of £8,000-£10,000, or even more, isn’t unrealistic.
You’ll want to go easy on the payload, though. The Export Package (rear-view camera and Omnistor 4m awning) is 35kg. Or Package 1 (Export plus full satellite system including 22in TV) is 51kg. Then there’s the Winter Comfort Package, at 30kg, automatic transmission adds 35kg, and if you want the electric drop-down bed option that’s a further 55kg lopped off your load allowance.
Luckily, the configurator on the Dethleffs website will keep you in the picture regarding costs and weight as you go through the various optional kit permutations.
Do note some of what you can see in the images here is from the options list – notably the larger 137-litre fridge (you get an 83-litre model as standard), automatic gearbox and the drop-down double bed over the lounge (which takes the sleeping accommodation up to five from three, but again payload could become an issue) – as well as lesser items such as the kitchen roll holder and storage rail in the kitchen.
The Dethleffs Just Go T 6815 EB has a typical floorplan for this format of motorhome. Those rear beds are very comfortable – thanks not only to being permanent but also Dethleffs’ use of what it calls “climate-regulating, seven-zone cold foam” mattresses with the added support and ventilation of wooden slatted bases. Extra pieces are also supplied to turn it into a double.
Plus there’s all that garage storage below. But they do steal a lot from the overall living space.
The kitchen is L-shaped to make it more space efficient but, as ever, it’s the lounge at the front that is compromised most.
Here, you get the usual mix of a forward-facing double travel seat that can be an L-shaped settee when on-site, as well as a single, inward-facing chair and both cab seats swivelled – set around a fixed pedestal leg table with plenty of fore-and-aft as well as height adjustment.
In the kitchen, there’s a low-level grill/oven to complement the two-ring hob, while there are only small areas of worktop around the circular sink. You do get pretty generous drawer and locker storage, though.
Across the corridor of the Just Go T 6815 EB motorhome, it’s a stylish washroom with swivel-bowl toilet and a fixed basin on a section that swings around when you want to create a generous area in which to shower.
Standard kit includes a Truma Combi 6kW heating and hot water system (gas only as standard), an opening sunroof to the cab, a generous array of sockets (single 12V, seven 230V, four USBs), and an alternative soft furnishing scheme.
But, it’s the overall build qualities that will be the clincher. Thereafter, it’s off to the options list and you’re on your own.
