The floorplan may have its origins in stablemate the Peugeot Boxer-based bestseller, Warwick XL, but this latest Auto-Sleeper van conversion ups the ante even further on the luxury and style fronts. Indeed, it’s without doubt the most luxurious Auto-Sleeper campervan yet.
Moving up a Merc’
It’s based on a Mercedes Sprinter, for starters. And no ordinary one, either. It comes with the more powerful 163bhp engine and nine-speed automatic transmission as standard (indeed, the only offering), with top Euro 6.3 rating for emissions.
Coming in at a positively large 7.10m in length, there’s no getting away from that whopping price tag, either. As a slight redress, Auto-Sleepers leaves little room for optional extras.
We take a look around the all-new 2024 Auto-Sleeper M-Star campervan:
The standard equipment on board the M-Star campervan is staggeringly high – going all the way up to Alde central heating and hot water, a system you’re more likely to find on a larger, upmarket coachbuilt motorhome. Also on-board and ready to go is everything from an Avtex TV complete with soundbar. Plus there’s wi-fi, Truma Aventa air conditioning to the living quarters, 110Watt solar panel, 100ah lithium leisure battery, 30-litre gas tank fitted to the underside, 4.25m Thule Awning with LED strip light, and plenty more.
As you’d expect, too, security hasn’t been overlooked. There’s a Sargent tracking system at the top of that particular list, which will attract a healthy discount on your campervan insurance with Caravan Guard.
It’s all set-up for two-person touring, with Auto-Sleepers using this newest addition to its campervan line-up as an excuse to modernise the interior colour schemes especially – hence the greys, blacks and more you can see here.
The lounge at the back of the Auto-Sleeper M-Star campervan comprises inward-facing settees that can be converted into single beds (both 1.86m x 0.68m) or a double that’s also 1.86m long, with a total width of 1.64m). It’s a slight surprise, with all the on-board space available, that Auto-Sleepers hasn’t considered going over the 6ft 1in bed lengths.
There are two pedestal leg tables for the lounge, too – with the tops and legs stowing in the wardrobe for safe travel.
The Mercedes base is just as impressive. Note the maximum weight of 3,880kg and check your driving licence qualifies you to drive it. There’s a serious air to the cab, with its 7in touchscreen MBUX multi-media system, heated seats, semi-automatic air conditioning etc. The Merc’ base also benefits from self-closing assistance to the sliding side door.
Considering overall size really means the M-Star campervan is competing with coachbuilt motorhomes, the tank capacities – 70 litres fresh, 77 litres waste – aren’t the highest. That aside, everything else about this ultimate Auto-Sleeper is absolutely grand.
Mid-van, the kitchen extends along the nearside, with a generous washroom diagonally opposite on the offside.
The kitchen in the Auto-Sleeper M-Star campervan includes a compressor fridge – a huge-capacity 157-litre Dometic model – with dual-hinged doors, meaning it can be opened from either side, plus a removable freezer if you want the space for chilling only.
Above it, there’s a Dometic microwave oven with ceramic plate. There’s also a dual-fuel hob (electric hotplate as well as gas rings) plus separate grill and oven, plus extractor unit, as well as hinged worktop extensions on each end, the one going into the lounge also coming with two holes for holding cups (when up, it also still allows access to the double USB portal, part of a complete offering of USB-A and USB-C outlets).
There’s sufficient space for a separate shower cubicle in the washroom – where the mixer tap, shower fittings and mug holder, toilet roll holder, even the toilet brush, are all in black, an instant contrast to the white plastic handbasin and shower lining.
It leaves you with just two final choices. Exterior colours of Iridium Silver, Cavansite Blue, or Selenite Grey. And interior alternatives from the grey leather that’s offered initially (and shown here) are fabrics Vogue Grey, Pamplona G Azul (blue) or Pamplona G Indigo (purple).
