It’s a numbers game. With the family-friendly 672, Bailey has taken its Phoenix GT75 caravan range up to six models as it celebrates its 75th anniversary as a caravan manufacturer.
Taking a hit for six
Six is, indeed, a magic number here because here’s a budget-friendly tourer that really can take up to half a dozen folk. That’s thanks to a layout that starts with a typical enough long, twin-settee front lounge.
In this video, we take a look around the 2024 Bailey Phoenix GT75 762 caravan:
There’s a normal chest of drawers with a slide-out tabletop on the front bulkhead and the usual, for Bailey, three-window front with the central area swooping up and across the roof to optimise daylight getting into the caravan.
There’s more seating thanks to a dinette along the nearside mid-‘van. And then diagonally opposite the dinette, the Bailey Phoenix GT75 762 has two permanent bunk beds, with a fixed ladder for the upper one.
That dinette can turn into two bunk beds best suited to children, with a curtain for privacy.
Bed sizes? Bailey’s own figures are 1.87m x 1.34m (maximum) for the front double; both fixed bunks are 1.86m x 0.68m; and the dinette bunks are 1.73m x 0.66m.
There’s more. The kitchen is on the offside, between the lounge and the bunks. And all this still leaves space for a full-width washroom across the back.
The amenities in the Bailey Phoenix GT75 762 caravan washroom include a Thetford swivel-bowl toilet on the offside, along with a full-scale wardrobe (it’s almost a walk-in affair, complete with shelving as well as a single hanging rail), and a separate, fully lined shower cubicle with Ecocamel showerhead in the nearside corner – it just lacks somewhere to put your shampoo etc.
A hanging rail for wet clothing would be useful, too.
Also, behind the toilet, where many manufacturers put a window, there’s a large, shelved locker. The handbasin is, again, typical Bailey, a Belfast-style design.
As for the kitchen, it’s a standard Bailey affair – the usual Thetford cooker (including a cover that sits flush with the rest of the worktop) with stainless steel sink to its left and a generous area of permanent worktop to the left of that.
Storage is good, albeit there’s just one drawer, and a flatbed microwave oven is standard. It leaves just one question: is the fridge, at 103 litres, large enough for family-sized appetites?
Over the fridge, however, is Bailey’s latest innovation – its Media station, comprising a wireless charging point with USB portals, along with a portable Bluetooth Sonos speaker, plus the usual mains/12V/aerial sockets for a TV.
Paring back the Phoenix fittings helps keep this caravan to a very keen price. There’s a decent list of factory-fit options to be selected, though. Also, plenty of add-ons can be had from Bailey’s own Prima Leisure online retailer.
There’s no holding back on the build, though. It has the same GRP-clad Alu-Tech bodywork construction and warranty protection as the rest of the Bailey portfolio. There’s a Hartal stable door, 14in alloy wheels, Polyplastic acrylic windows and concertina blinds and flyscreens from Remis.
There’s also pre-wiring in place should you want to add a caravan motor mover or internal Wi-Fi.
Interestingly, with the Bailey Phoenix GT75 762 caravan, they’ve hit on a floorplan without any clear rivals. A hit for six, then!
Verdict: Family favourite with plenty of bunks beds and seating
Plus: Well priced for a twin axle, reasonable size and weight figures
Minus: Only a small fridge, washroom lacks a window and a second shower plughole
In-a-nutshell: Six appeal
Alternatives: Adria Altea 622 DK Avon, Coachman Acadia 630 Xtra (five-berth), Elddis Avante 585 (five-berth), Swift Sprite Major 6 TD
