When it comes to caravanning, cooking on your holidays doesn’t have to mean cutting corners. Many of you are cooking up a storm in your caravan kitchens – and we wanted to find out which gadgets and gear make it easier, tastier, or just more creative.
In last month’s community poll, we asked caravanners: “What’s your must-have caravan kitchen or cooking accessory?” More than 300 of you responded, with votes flooding in for everything from air fryers and BBQs to kettles, coffee makers and more.
We’ve crunched the numbers and grouped similar gadgets (including Cadac BBQs and stackable cookware) to bring you your top 10 caravan cooking accessories, ranked by popularity.
1. Air fryer
The air fryer has become a caravanning (and motorhoming) favourite and earned 30% of the votes!
Quick, compact and efficient, it’s ideal for rustling up chips, sausages, roast vegetables and more without using the oven. Just plug in and get frying!
2. BBQ and Cadac grills
Many of you couldn’t live without your BBQs – and Cadac’s range proved especially popular, with the Carri Chef, Carri Chef 40, and Safari Chef models all getting mentions. BBQs accounted for 26% of the votes and are certainly great for alfresco dining and keeping smells out of the caravan!
3. Kettle
Simple but essential. Whether it’s for your morning brew or a cuppa when you’ve set up your caravan, the trusty kettle is a caravan staple for good reason – it steamed into third place with almost a quarter of the votes.
4. Caravan gas cooker
Almost all caravans come with a fitted gas cooker or hob, and plenty of voters still consider it the heart of their caravan kitchen set up, especially with a grill or oven for full meal flexibility.
5. Microwave
Quick meals and easy re-heating are a doddle with a microwave. They’re perfect for convenience on the go when hooked up – and again many modern caravans will have one fitted as standard.
6. Remoska & electric pans
Compact, versatile, and low wattage, the Remoska and other electric skillets and pans (like the Teppanyaki grill or Tower electric pan) are ideal for one-pot wonders.
7. Coffee makers
Whether it’s a full coffee machine, stovetop espresso pot or a simple cafetière, 10% of you rely on your favourite brew to start the day, putting coffee makers into seventh place.
8. Toasters and grills
Toast, paninis, or grilled cheese – these compact appliances offer a lot with very little fuss. From basic toasters to George Foreman grills and griddles, they’re clearly a go-to for many caravanners.
9. Slow cooker
Pop the ingredients in, go for a walk, and come back to a ready-made hot meal. The slow cooker is a favourite for relaxed caravan cooking and was the ninth most popular caravan cooking accessory.
10. Space-saving cookware
Stacking pans, collapsible gear and clever space-saving sets (like the Tefal Ingenio range) got lots of love. A smart option for small caravan kitchens where every inch matters.
Other honourable caravan cooking accessory mentions…
We also had some fun and quirky responses including a “sharp knife, bottle opener, takeaway menus” and even votes for “my wife”, “hubby”, and “dog”!
