Let’s get cooking….
We start with six alternative types of cooker that might just prove the perfect complement to any cooking facilities you already have on board…plus six pieces of extra kit that can make your caravan and motorhome cooking all the more special.
Star Player #1
Cadac Carri Chef 40 BBQ
This gas-powered outdoor cooker just couldn’t be more versatile, thanks to its choice of cooking surfaces.
Cadac’s bespoke GreenGrill ceramic process means a coating that’s quick to heat, with an even cooking area (that’s for both the barbecue grid and the Chef pan), and easy to clean.
The dome lid means heat is used as efficiently as possible, plus it includes a thermometer. The lid can also be positioned to act as a wind guard too.
Meanwhile, a single adjustable leg means it can cope with uneven ground, and it all packs down into its own carrybag for easy transportation and stowing.
Look out, also, for plenty of accessories suitable for Series 40 models like this plancha, pizza stone and more.
Key features Stay-Cool handle, removable fat pan with peep holes, adjustable temperature control, removable pot stand, packed dimensions 65cm x 44cm x 31cm, weight 12kg, propane and butane compatible (regulator and hose not supplied), two-year warranty
Expect to pay £250
Star Player #2
Campingaz Camp’Bistro 3 gas stove and griddle accessory
Although these can be bought as separates, they actually make for a great combination when bought together – and again, could prove a perfect complement to your on-board kitchen.
The Camp’Bistro 3 is a standard single gas burner that’s powered by cartridges and is great when you want a bit of extra versatility, or indeed a particularly quick way of boiling a kettle, for example.
Now Campingaz has introduced the Camp’Bistro 3 griddle accessory, which means you can also have a griddle surface for your stove. That means you can cook at surface temperatures up to 250degC within five minutes of firing up.
There’s also space in the stove’s carrycase to stow the griddle pan.
Key features 2,200Watt burner, pan support, recycled carry case, weight 1.6kg, dimensions 34cm x 28cm x 13cm (Bistro 3);
Expect to pay £39.99 (Camp’Bistro 3)/£19.99 (Griddle Accessory)
Star Player #3
Swiss Luxx Teppanyaki Grill XL 1800W
The larger of two such offerings from Swiss Lux – there’s also a 1,500Watt version with a smaller cooking surface area – this is a mains operated griddle designed for cooking the Japanese teppanyaki way, i.e. using a hot griddle for grilling or frying.
Use it for cooking indoors or out, heat is spread evenly across a 44cm x 23cm area and there’s a temperature controller. It’s also really easy to clean.
Key features Adjustable temperature control, non-stick coating, non-slip feet, removable drip tray, 13amp plug
Expect to pay £41.99
Star Player #4
Vango Sizzle
A very handy little unit to have around if you have access to mains electricity and maybe can’t use your gas hob for any reason.
Also available as a double unit or, as here, a single with an 800Watt rating which means you’re unlikely to trip your mains electricity supply.
Features include LED controls and a heating lock function that will keep pans warm. There’s also an internal cooling fan. Like all induction cookers, the hob is particularly easy to wipe down when it comes to cleaning.
A beep sensor will immediately tell you if your pan isn’t suitable for the induction heating process. Dimensions are 19cm long x 23cm wide x 6cm high.
Key features 2.5m cable, maximum temperature 200degC, weight 1.42kg, storage bag included
Expect to pay £72.50
Star Player #5
Lakeland Slimline air fryer 8L
The recent trend for air fryers at home is starting to spill over into the leisure vehicle sector. And why not? These are versatile cooking units in their own right – just make sure you go for a lower Wattage example that isn’t too bulky.
Overall dimensions for this example from a wide range on offer at Lakeland are 29cm wide x 42cm deep x 27.5cm high and cooking temperature is between 80degC and 200degC.
The eight-litre cooking capacity translates into 1.3kg of chips. But it will do plenty more, including roasting.
In all black, it includes a window for keeping an eye on your cooking, with seven pre-set programmes to choose from.
There are lots of accessories available, too – including an easy-lift basket, various liners and mats, silicone moulds for loaves, brownies, muffins and more.
Key features Easy to clean, 1700Watt rating, 1.2m cable, weight 5kg, three-year guarantee
Expect to pay £89.99
Star Player #6
Omnia Classic Maxi 3L
A newer version of a long-term favourite – the Maxi 3L is the biggest stovetop oven from Sweden’s Omnia yet, at some 50% larger than the 2L original.
A design of three parts, it has a bowl-shaped base with a hole in its centre, that conducts heat from your power source, a bowl where you put the items you want to cook, and a lid.
It’s a great alternative if you don’t have any kind of oven in your leisure vehicle, but do have a hob. It sits on the latter (not induction units, though, but it can actually also be used on a barbecue) and its unique design means you can use it for baking anything from potatoes to cakes, bread and more. Indeed, as Omnia puts it, it can cook anything a conventional oven can.
Key features Stainless steel base, aluminium pan and lid, diameter 25cm x height 17cm
Expect to pay £49.90
