The Isle of Islay. We have visited, and stayed on, many islands, including Arran, Skye, and Islay. About a dozen in total. Although arguably not the prettiest of the Scottish islands it does have wonderful beaches, amazing wildlife, and beautiful sea views. Also 7 or 8 distilleries to visit. But perhaps best of all this is the friendliest place we have ever visited. Only two sites on the island but plenty of places to wildcamp if that is your thing. And if you do go then you really must visit Jura – just a short ferry trip. You won’t be disappointed

  2. Moira Adam says:

Our favourite islands are Harris & Tiree also Colonsay well worth visiting plenty to see and do you can walk across sand to Oronsay from Colonsay

  3. Barry says:

All the Outer Hebridean Islands are worth a visit providing you don’t mind mist and chilly winds, but our favourite island (so far) is Raasay, just off the coast of Skye.Whilst Skye is bare, sweeping and majestic, Raasay offers a more intimate landscape with pockets of woodland and hidden corners. The island is quiet, away from the main tourist routes, and a joy for wild camping – no campsites, pubs or petrol stations.

  4. Kevin Law says:

Berneray on the outer hebrides has got to be one of the best places for wild camping by motorhome. The remainder of the islands offer great locations to stay, with water, showers, toilets and elsan disposal at all of the ports. Really wecoming great place, if the weather was any better everyone would be there.

  5. Clive says:

The Isle of Man is an absolute must, there are working thatched roof villages, lots of museums, the horse drawn trams in Douglas, the oldest electris railway in the world to take you along the Manx valleys up to the summit of Snaefell, a passenger steam railway, Manx prodice dich as their famous kippers, and their own Manx beers, the pace of motoring is relaxed in the extreme and the Manx people are amongst the friendliest you will come across their heritage and history together with spectacular countryside makes this a “must visit”
The only negative is that the Steam “Racket” Co fares are expensive,
Dont let that put you off, your visit will leave you with wonderful memories.
( have been to the TT for 53 years so know what I am talking about when it comes to the Isle of Man)

  6. John Fahy says:

Other than the isle of Skye, which is a firm favourite with us we can recommend the Lofoten islands, off the Norwegian Coast. Fantastic, Like the Hebrides on steroids, it’s a long way but worth every mile, with lots of fantasic places to see on the way there and back.

  7. Caroline says:

We love travelling in Ellie our motorhome in the UK, but we have also had brilliant trips to Sweden, Italy and Germany. One of the best islands in Germany is Fehmarn in the Baltic (N Germany). Lovely beaches and very relaxing. Also went skiing in Can Cassiano in the Dolomites and found a lovely campsite just minutes from the Langlauf course and transport to a huge ski area.

    • Liz @ Caravan Guard says:

Thanks for sharing these destinations Caroline -it sounds like Ellie has taken you far and wide!

  8. Alistair Brown says:

Anyone who has visited the Outer Hebrides will surely agree that these are the islands with the most magical beaches, particularly the Isles of Harris and the Uists. The beaches at Hushinish, Uig ( site of the Lewis Chessmen ) and Luskentyre are just stunning and the Machair in Spring – magical

  9. mike Elliott says:

I think a top 5 choice would be better as in Scotland Islay and Skye Wales Anglesey plus the whole of Northern Ireland.

  10. paul denton says:
