I am pleased to see mud recovery is now covered. When was this introduced, please, as we took out our initial policy with you in December 2015, and was told recently that it was NOT covered?

    • Liz @ Caravan Guard says:

Yes, all motorhome policies come with mud recovery. Please note it’s in the UK only. This was introduced in 2014. Please give us a call if you have any more questions.

I took out CG Breakdown on the recomendation of dealer when buying mhome ealier this year. Was really surprised and disappointed to discover it doesn’t include home start I would have thought this an essential service to mhome owners. This resulted in a great deal of unexpected expense and inconvenience. It is not made clear on your web site that home start is not covered. I certainly will NOT be renewing next year.

      Hi Rob,

I’m very sorry to hear that you weren’t satisfied with the motorhome breakdown service you recently received from us.

Home start is not a standard feature in our motorhome breakdown policy, but it is available on a pay-by-use basis for a callout fee of £48.64 (price correct as of 05/01/2015). So a customer can still get home start assistance when needed but will need to pay what we think is a very reasonable fee.

We choose not to include home start as standard because our breakdown provider’s experience is that the majority of breakdown cases at home are caused due to flat batteries which can easily be avoided. If we were to include the home start feature as standard, our motorhome customers’ premiums would likely increase significantly due to the expense of dealing with many callouts for flat batteries, which would penalise those customers who maintain their batteries and didn’t use home start assistance. Therefore, though our breakdown cover does include some great standard features once the motorhome is a mile away from home, we feel the fairest way to offer home start assistance is on a pay-by-use basis so customers can pay for the service only when needed.

I do hope this explains our reasoning a little better.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please email me directly at [email protected].

      Many thanks

      Lucie

This is a great addition to the breakdown cover but i would love at home cover on the breakdown cover but it may come sometime i hope.

My motorhome would not start on my driveway last year and had to arrange for breakdown recovery to get it to the garage cost £125

    • Craig @ Caravan Guard says:

David, Home start assistance isn’t standard on our cover but you can pay for it through IPA on a pay by use basis.
You’d need to call the usual IPA number. The charge depends on the weight of the vehicle but would be between £48 to £64 plus VAT.
This would cover the call out and recovery up to 15 miles to the nearest garage. If any more than 15 miles the charge would be an extra £1 per mile.
      Thanks
