2026 Benivan 122P campervan

Here’s a great example of what is emerging as an increasing trend in the van conversion sector – taking a standard model with a proven layout and adding a campervan-style elevating roof.

The Benivan 122P campervan starts off as a conversion of the 6.36m long Fiat Ducato that features a rear lounge of twin inward-facing settees – converting to 1.85m x 0.60m single beds or, with a bit more effort, a 1.85m x 1.85m double that means you could sleep lengthways or transversely – and a forward lounge that includes a travel seat for two.

That makes it a four-berth for travel as standard, but if you also want to sleep four you’ll be looking at the £5,495 elevating roof option, which gives you a full-size 2.0m x 1.30m double bed up top.

It’s an import (parent company Benimar makes its vehicles in Spain; Benivan is the name it reserves for its van conversions, but note the sliding door is on the UK nearside (not always the case for models like this coming into the UK). Marquis Leisure is a key distributor in the UK.

The 122P is offered with Fiat’s 140bhp engine and six-speed manual gearbox – it’s a perfectly capable combination. Automatic transmission will set you back a further £2,995, but that also entails a change of exterior colour – from the Expedition White here to Campovolo Grey.

Take it, also, that you’ll accept the Smart Drive option pack that has a retail value of £999 but will cost you only £95 and adds a 9in Pioneer infotainment system with reversing camera, DAB/DAB+ radio, Caravassist, Waze satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

If you go for the elevating roof option, payload is still over 400kg and the 3,500kg maximum loaded weight means there are no more driving licence requirements. Economy should be around the 30mpg mark, and you’ll notice the ride is a bit firmer than rival base vehicles.

Benivan’s conversion work includes adding opening side and rear windows (with concertina blinds and flyscreens), a slide-out step for the side door, black alloy wheels and subtle graphics.

Inside the Benivan 122P campervan, the kitchen and washroom are in the mid-‘van area, the former on the nearside and comes with a typical two-ring gas hob and sink in stainless steel arrangement, plus a low-level oven/grill unit.

Completing the kitchen inventory is an 84-litre Thetford compressor fridge with freezer compartment, which also comes with a quieter, night-time setting. It’s set conveniently high, which in turn leaves space for a wardrobe underneath.

Most of the kitchen storage is drawers – usually regarded as much more practical than lockers – plus there’s a single mains socket and a flip-up worktop extension.

Over on the offside, the washroom has a space-saving tambour door and the usual main three facilities – a Thetford swivel-bowl toilet, a shower on a riser bar, and fixed handbasin.

You can tell plenty of thought has gone into this washroom – fittings like the opening window, two plugholes in the shower tray, fixings to hold a curtain in place when showering, towel rail, toilet roll holder etc are all here. There is, however, a noticeable lack of storage.

Like its 144 shorter sister model (also available with the elevating roof option), the Benivan 122P campervan also comes very well equipped – the likes of a 200Watt solar panel, 90-litre fresh and wastewater tanks, Webasto Air Top diesel heating, Truma hot water system, seven-litre underslung gas tank, a full flyscreen at the sliding door, LED awning light and plenty more all come as standard.

Verdict: Great equipment:price ratio, elevating roof option adds an extra dimension (literally)
